Women Coach In Every Men's Major League Sport
In professional sports dominated by men, female coaches have been breaking barriers in every major league association. Recently, Becky Hammon, Assistant Coach for the San Antonio Spurs (NBA), stood in as acting Head Coach on December 27th against the L.A. Lakers. Hammon became the first female ever to be a Head Coach for the NBA, a major milestone for women and girls everywhere. Her time as Head Coach may have been limited to that game, but the belief that she is capable of coaching in the NBA has not. Former Spurs player, Pau Gaol said in 2018, “I’m not saying she can coach pretty well. I’m not saying she can coach enough to get by. I’m not saying she can coach almost at the level of the NBA’s male coaches. I’m saying: Becky Hammon can coach NBA basketball. Period.” Here is a list of other women who have broken barriers in Men’s professional sports.
Bianca Smith - the first black female to coach in Minor League Baseball
Dawn Braid - first full time female coach of the National Hockey League
Alyssa Nakken - first full time coach for Major League Baseball
Jen Welter - first woman to coach in the National Football League
