Listen: Taken for Granted Podcast with Guest, Allyson Felix

Alex Cramer

As our team shifts from the girls high school season to boys and our club meets become more competitive, some wise words from Olympic Runner, Allyson Felix, “having gratitude, having, um, you know, respect for the sport and respect for my competitors, that I am not the only talented one. I am not the only one who is working and giving and sacrificing and appreciating that, appreciating that there is excellence around me that there's beauty in lifting others up.” Felix talked to Adam Grant in the podcast Taken for Granted about defeating disappointments and savoring successes, finding her talent in high school (that’s right, she didn’t even start running until high school!), Nike’s mistreatment of her when she disclosed she was pregnant, and the importance of mental health for athletes. On a side note - your teammate Yordi Divelbess (Platinum) is now a committee member for the Illinois Swimming Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee! She is already getting to work with the group and they are very excited to have her! Athletes, if you have ideas or concerns, have a chat with Yordi so she can bring it to the committee!
